Cancer. It affects the lives of so many and as humans our singular wish is to eradicate it from our reality. Someone in our Hydroflight Family that has experienced and survived this horrible disease continues Flying PINK for Breast Cancer and raising awareness around the world. We are very proud to support Iris Vasconez during Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) as well as the athletes around the world who have their own personal reasons for flying pink for breast cancer.
How it Started
Flying Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness was started by Iris Vasconez, a breast cancer survivor from NYC, she began flying for this cause with her fellow FlyGirls in 2015. With an ankle injury forcing Iris to retire from competitive Flyboarding, she reached out to her Flyboard Family for support and it was Petra Wijnker of Flyboard Cyprus and Wael Abdou of Flyboard Egypt who encouraged Vasconez to channel her love of flying in this very important direction. Events were held in both Cyprus and Egypt and that momentum has carried on around the world.

One amazing event in 2017 was the all day fundraiser held at ‘One Love Beach’ home of the Maldivian Flyboarders. Presented in partnership with the Maldives Cancer Society, the event included a Breast Cancer Awareness presentation, followed by Ibrahim Hussein flying pink, providing flights for children, flying tandem with a breast cancer survivor and to cap off an epic day he flew an inspiring night show.
Many other athletes have flown in support of Iris and Breast Cancer Awareness and they include, Anthony ‘The Bull’ Martinez Yague, Rush Bragg, Kristen Smoyer, Ashton Beukers, Valentine Cambron, and Steve Palma.
Jason Duff and his Flyboard Cabo crew also have been Flying PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness.
The impact of ‘Flying PINK’ has been powerful and everlasting. Whether Iris is working as a Judge at Hydroflight Competitions or simply inspiring others to bring awareness to their communities, she continues to make a difference and will always be a great example of strength and positivity.
