Flyboard Canada had six (seven if I may include myself) representatives on our team at the 2013 Flyboard World Cup. Four, all from Alberta Flyboard, competed in the competition and though each would have liked to have flown a few more rounds in Qatar, they showed the world they might just be crazy enough to become really great at this unique sport. Brody Wells (22nd), Braden Anderson (41st), Rodney Biggar (43rd) and Adrian Boucher (55th) battled 70+ Pro Flyboarders from around the world and I’m sure took some serious notes from the other competitors as they prep for 2014.
Flyboard Canada and BC Flyboard’s Daniel Kaufman was the events Master of Ceremonies and did an amazing job providing play by play of each competitive run. Not an easy task when you’re dealing with such a new sport and half of what you’re seeing is for the first time. Iron Man also made an appearance thanks to Daniel. Iron Man and Stéphane Denis pictured below are both superheroes in our book. Stéphane heads up the spectacular Flyboard Show. Daniel along with Mike Prince, also of Flyboard Canada and BC Flyboard, shot some sick Qaudcopter footage and Mike is currently working on editing that unique perspective into a movie which we’ll share as soon as it’s out. Mike was a spectator this year but assures me he’ll be training hard so he can be out on the water in 2014.
Cheering from back home were Ben Jerrett (Alberta Flyboard) and Alex Barreira and his Flyboard Quebec crew. I’ve heard rumors that Alex is working with fellow Flyboard Canada members to bring a national competition to our country in 2014 and perhaps even the World Cup in the near future. That would be very exciting!
The man leading Canadian Flyboarding on the water is Brody Wells. Brody has now competed in both the 2012 and 2013 Flyboard World Championships and certainly has all the tools to challenge for a podium position. It will be exciting to see where he and his fellow flyers push each other over the next 12 months… the bar will be raised.
2014 should be a huge year for Flyboarding in Canada. Hopefully we’ll see the return of one of the top female flyers in the world, Stephanie Wells to the World Cup or maybe she’ll take flight as part of our countries first ever national competition. I promise you one thing, H2RO Magazine will be ready to bring you all the action so bookmark our site and visit often in 2014.
