Skat Trak and PowerFly Products
Product Review by Pro Hydroflight athlete Ben Merrell
After riding a stock 2013 Yamaha FX SHO, then riding with the Skat Trak double impeller, and then adding the Powerfly Pump from PowerFactor Products, I am officially ready to break it down. The Yamaha FX SHO stock is absolutely incomplete in regards to FlyBoard. Don’t get me wrong you can get about 35 feet at 3/4 throttle, but then you run into terrible vibration and wasted fuel. The power itself is good but it didn’t separate itself from other skis with similar HP.
Then I added the double impeller from Skat Trak. The difference was amazing, so much in fact that I honestly had to relearn how to fly. The power was the most noticeable difference. I could accelerate upwards with a ton of force and was getting a max height of about 45 feet. After about 3 days I was comfortable on it and had stopped over-rotating my backflips, and I became more aware of what was really possible on a FlyBoard. I have to say that I would not have had the run I had at the FlyBoard World Cup had I not trained with this impeller.
Today was my first flight with the Powerfly Pump. I was not sure what to expect because I thought how much more power can I get/need. For starters the pump is absolutely beautiful. It’s machined to perfection and all stainless steel. I put it on myself in about 15 minutes, and I am no mechanic. It came with the double impeller already mounted and ready to go. The power was similar to when I added the double impeller (incredible!!!), the height was all that the hose had to offer plus the front half of my ski (50+feet), but the main difference was how smooth it all ran. I used to fly on a Seadoo GTR 215, at one point I was only getting about 20 feet. I replaced the wear ring and was back up to 30 feet. After another 30-40 hours I noticed a decrease in height and power again…Time to replace something. The Powerfly Pump is the complete system. The impeller is the power; the pump is the house it belongs in.
The more I fly the more in tune I am becoming with each flight. I can feel when something is off, and today with the new pump I had the cleanest flight I’ve ever had. If you consider yourself a flyer at all and don’t have the double impeller order it today. If you are a serious flyer or want to be one, I would definitely recommend the investment in the Powerfly Pump. It really does make that much of a difference!
