Introducing Alex Barreira of Flyboard Québec
Flyboarding in Canada is getting stronger by the day and there are many people to thank for that including Alex who along with his work growing the sport in the great white north has been leading the evolution in Flyboard Competition Judging. He has worked as a judge in the 2014 and 2015 North American Flyboard Championships and 2015 XDubai Flyboard World Cup. Alex took some time for H2RO Magazine and we really appreciate it.
H2RO: What is your sports background and how did those skills translate to the Flyboard?
Snowboarder. The way I control my Flyboard feels a lot like my snowboard, the toes and heels to go forward faster so was easy to understand how to operate the Flyboard.
H2RO: What do you find most exciting about being at the forefront of a new extreme sport?
T0 show the Flyboard to everyone, having the chance to perform in big shows, events and others is awesome. Just to see the smiles on everyone’s faces in all the demos I do just makes my job awesome.
H2RO: What is your process for pushing the equipments limits and inventing new tricks? Do you have the ability to gauge the progression of other top riders as they work around the world?
Each run I push my board faster, harder, higher. My moves are getting perfect each time I ride. Most of the riders only show backflips in their videos so its hard to see their progression.
H2RO: Do you have a signature trick that you invented or a trick that is your favourite?
Yes, the 1080 grab backflip
H2RO: Tell me a little bit about FlyboardQC and what your goals are for the company?
Flyboard Qc’s goal is to be an exemple for the world in the way we operate, the way we make the sport ultra safe and the way we promote it. In just 3 months we’ve sold 40 boards, trained over 300 people and did over 400 rentals. We did 5 big shows, appeared in over 10 news papers, did 6 tv shows and reached over 2.5 million people. We are working very hard to bring a World Championship to Canada.
YES, let’s bring the next World Championship to Canada! Thanks for the interview Alex and I look forward to meeting you, Patrick Vallières and Ian Gratton in the near future.
