H2RO Magazine Exclusive Interview
FM: What is your sports background and how did those skills translate to the Flyboard?
My sports background started at a young age playing t-ball and baseball but my true passion was swimming and wakeboarding. I also snowboard as well as do some longboarding.
FM: What do you find most exciting about being at the forefront of a new extreme sport?
What I find most exciting about being a pioneer of Flyboarding is all the reactions I get when people hear or see it. They totally get blown away and it’s cool to watch. I mean Franky has changed the world with his invention and it’s just an amazing feeling to be a part of that.
FM: What is your process for pushing the equipments limits and inventing new tricks? Do you have the ability to gauge the progression of other top riders as they work around the world?
Yes I can definitely gauge the progression of other riders and its fun to watch people from around the world come up with the same type of tricks without even riding together. Basically I push the limits every time I fly and you have to in order to progress. In my downtime I’m always thinking of new tricks and how they can be done.
FM: Do you have a signature trick that you invented or a trick that is your favorite?
Well there’s no feeling like doing a backflip, it’s a thrill every time I do it and that never gets old. But I’ve got a couple tricks up my sleeve that you will see in future competitions!! (Read Alexander’s Flyboard Backflip Tip Here)
FM: As a professional what events, competitions do you have on the horizon?
I plan on competing in every Flyboard competition until I die! Fly or Die baby!!
FM: How do you see the sport of flyboarding progressing in the US?
I see big things in the US for Flyboard’s future and can’t wait until it’s just as big as wakeboarding.
FM: Can you share with us what the atmosphere was like at the first ever World Cup and as a competitor what you left feeling regarding the future of the sport?
The first comp was amazing! Everyone was really nice and happy to be there. We all grouped up and hit the sand dunes together or went camel riding through the desert until we hit a beach. Qatar was a a great place and the vibe was just simply new. No one really knew what to expect so we were all just going with the flow and the flow was flowing! The future of the sport has a lot ahead. I can guarantee this year’s comp will be a lot stiffer than last year due to everyone’s progression so much this year.
FM: Yeah I can’t wait to see the insanity you guys pull for the next World Cup. Once I have the details about it I will add to our World Cup page under Competitions.
Thanks so much Alexander for taking the time to talk and hey we were just going with the flow and the flow was flowing! Shout out to all fellow PRESS this guy takes a decent photo…get him on your covers when you’re writing this sport up!
