Before that battle begins H2RO wanted to shoot some questions his way and learn more about the man, the myth, the legend.
H2RO MAGAZINE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
H2RO: What is your sports background and how did those skills translate to the Flyboard?
We live next to a lake here in Holland, when the temperature is good we go out with the Jet Ski’s and boats to play with the fun-tube and wakeboard!
H2RO: What do you find most exciting about being at the forefront of a new extreme sport?
When nobody does it, and it is so exiting to do it! Every time I do it there are people that don’t believe their eyes when they see me flying!
H2RO: What is your process for pushing the equipments limits and inventing new tricks? Do you have the ability to gauge the progression of other top riders as they work around the world?
Me and the rest of the Flyboard Team are working every day at new projects, light-suits, better shoes, more horse power on the Jet Ski and we try to do things to stay ahead of other people like: 4 people on the board, wearing crazy suits and much more!
H2RO: Do you have a signature trick that you invented or a trick that is your favourite?
Everybody who’s seen me fly calls me “Backflip Bo”. My favourite trick are double backflips, and a few other styles of doing backflip’s.
H2RO: As a professional what events, competitions do you have on the horizon? How far do you think the world of flyboarding will have progressed by the next World Cup?
On the first day of the world cup 2012 in Qatar, I was in first place out of all the riders. The next day I was disqualified because there was a knot in the hose, but that was not my fault, because it was already causing trouble before me! I’m in the FLYBOARD RIDERS TEAM, I was a few weeks ago in Turkmenistan to do a show for the President. Me and my Flyboard Team have been in Dubai, to do a show for the Sheik and his son! There are many projects we’ve done and there are a lot more coming up.
H2RO: Where do you see Holland positioning itself in the world of Flyboarding?
Me and Arnoud Stoppels are flying at a world class level. At the first World Cup after day one we were in 1st and 2nd position so we know we are at flying at a high level!
H2RO: What is one tip you would give riders out there that are trying to get to a professional level?
You will fall and crash a lot of times but don’t give up and try more, more, more, more!
Hallelujah brother! Really looking forward to checking out Backflip Bo in Qatar this November for the second annual World Cup. Let’s hope for many double’s and no hose issues.
